Harbor Springs, Michigan

This morning we had calmer water for our trip to Harbor Springs. We are in a nice marina that is also a boat dealer; we are surrounded by Tiaras.

Now most of you know that we are used to salt water with tides that come in and go out. The pilings at our home marina in Connecticut are quite tall to accommodate the floating docks. Most of the docks in Michigan have been fixed docks with taller pilings.

This is the piling on our floating dock today. I guess they don’t have have a big water range here. That’s an awfully stubby piling 😆. Did you note the clear turquoise water?  You can see the rocks at the bottom. The water is 12 ft. deep in the picture.

We took a walk into town. There are some beautiful houses on this island where the population is 1,200.

It was our plan to go out to eat for lunch.  However, a lot of restaurants were closed and the ones that were open had a one-hour wait. So we walked back to the boat and had hot dogs and fudge. 🌭 🍫

Fred, Cindy and Dave walked to the Shay Hexagon House.  Ephraim Shay, creator of the Shay geared locomotive, built the Hexagon House in 1892.

Ephraim Shay also built his own boat called “Aha“
