Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Beer

We left Sheboygan and cruised a fairly calm Lake Michigan to Milwaukee.

Milwaukee, of course, is the City of Beer. Miller, Pabst, as well as an assortment of craft beer breweries, are all here. However, they don’t all offer tours on weekdays. Miller is totally closed to tours due to COVID. Most of the others offer tours only on weekends. That left us with Lakeland Brewery, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. The tour was hilarious. And they have a small restaurant so you can eat and drink right after your tour.

Laverne and Shirley opening was filmed here.

Do you remember Laverne and Shirley?  (Don’t worry if you don’t. Some of you weren’t born yet). It turns out the opening of the show was filmed at what was the Miller Brewing Company, which was just down the road from where Lakeland is now. When Miller closed that building, Lakeland bought the bottling line that you see in the show.  And we saw that bottling line today. How cool are we?!!!  Here’s the opening below to help you remember. Everyone on the tour sang the opening today with the CD.  https://youtu.be/bJzF8_df1R8

When Lakeland Brewery started, they used three dairy tanks to ferment the beer. The US government required brewer tanks to be named (A B C or 1 2 3 would be normal), but Lakeland called their 3 tanks Moe, Larry, and Curley. Local artists found out and painted these 3 sentries for the brewery

After we had our tour, we went in the bar/restaurant and had some libations and food. Turns out that the beer Fred picked was 11%+ alcohol. Seriously?! As you can see, he enjoyed it.  All in all, it was a fun trip.
