Illinois River to Ottawa, Illinois

Today we had a short hop from Seneca to Ottawa, Illinois. It was a 9 mile cruise to a resort marina enclosed by resort houses. Very nice and pretty.

We had one lock to go through today and we were the only boat. We called ahead and the lock master said he didn’t have anyone coming through and to come on over. It took us about 40 minutes to get to the lock. Once we got there and asked for opening, the lock master needed to change the water from low to high for us. That took about 20 minutes, then 20 minutes in the lock and we were then on our way. Much more reasonable than the 4.5 hour wait and then a one hour lock-through yesterday.  It was windy today, and we spent the entire time trying to keep the bow of the boat off the wall. So no pictures as we were occupied. I saw that Lake Michigan has had high wave warnings the last two days. We got off the Lake just in time.

Yesterday we passed by the Dresden Nuclear Power Plant. I’m sure those on the nuclear power plant tour have been wondering about it for the past 24 hours. So our apologies for making you wait a day to see it.
