More Alton Business

While we had the rental car, we went to the grocery store. As we were leaving the store, I noticed there were bags hanging  on the back of the cart, just under the handle I was pushing:

This is genius!  They put the eggs and bread on those hooks, so they didn’t get squished by the heavy stuff inside the cart. Why aren’t all carts made this way?  Of course, in Connecticut now, we have to provide our own shopping bags at every store. So, never mind…

Here’s a sign by the railroad tracks as we were driving to the grocery store. It says “ATTENTION, Remote Control Locomotives Operate in this area, Locomotive cabs may be unoccupied.” What?!  ğŸ¤¨Really??  I don’t know about you, but that scared me as we were crossing the railroad tracks, both in the car and later on foot.

The next thing we did while we had a car was to go to Fast Eddie’s restaurant for lunch. It’s one of those places where it’s not about the food, it’s about the experience.

So no kids are allowed, 21+ years old only. And there’s no carry out or doggie bags.

When you go in to order, there’s only 6 things you can get:  a burger, a brat, shrimp, fries, steak on a stick, or chicken on a stick (see the 8.5 x 11” size papers on the wall behind the counter). I got the most expensive item, 10 cocktail shrimp for $5.99.

With it, I got Angry Orchard hard cider, ‘cause that’s what I drink now. I also received a story from the bartender. When he was 20 years old, many years ago, he drank the Angry Orchard hard cider with friends at a bar. Actually, he drank 9 of them. Unfortunately, he didn’t know they are 9.5% alcohol. What?!  Needless to say, he wasn’t doing well the next day. I kept it to one bottle.

Anyway, we went to Fast Eddie’s at 11:45 am.  There were already approximately 100 people in the restaurant when we got there. It is a large restaurant, and it’s all about the drinks. They were $4.50 including tax.
