Bobby’s Fish Camp - Coffeeville, AL

We left Demopolis shortly after 5:30 am this morning. It was 34 degrees Fahrenheit. Waaaay too cold for boating. I was so miserable and I’m still cold tonight. And apparently, I get to do it again tomorrow! 😠 just to remind us, an adventure is not necessarily all good.
Here are the full moon and sunrise pictures from 5:45 am or so (we had to wait until we were almost in the lock).

Our flotilla following us to the lock

In the lock

In this picture, I’m wearing three jackets and still I’m freezing.

The scenery is beautiful. However, we saw this green buoy (circled) that I wouldn’t trust to give us the correct channel border.

We arrived at Bobby’s Fish Camp around 2:30 or so. Another Looper helped us with lines as no one had helped him when he arrived. About an hour and a half later, two other Looper boats arrived so we all helped get them tied down. There are four boats here, but only room on the dock for three boats. So the last boat is rafted (tied) to our boat.

Another boat rafted to Taurus

The bow of Taurus is almost inside the boat in front of us.

The bow of the boat behind us is almost inside our salon.

Bobby’s Fish Camp is pretty  much what you’d expect. Some small cabins and RV’s clustered around the water. Fred saw a group of guys get in a smaller boat with crossbows to go hunting.

You know you’re in the south when you see Spanish Moss

And I just have to show you this. Today we traveled 98 miles. But the boat moved 60 miles as the crow flies. These charts will show you why. The green line is a satellite view of the Black Warrior River that we are traveling

I’m tired of rivers that meander everywhere except where you want to go. I’m tired of locks, I’m tired of freezing cold boating….  Fred says tomorrow will be our last day on the rivers. That’s something to look forward to.

  1. Deb, I wish I could send you a big mug of hot cocoa, some long underwear, and a fuzzy blanket. Hang in there my dear friend.
