Caption: You Can’t Make This Stuff Up
| Smithville Marina, November 15 |
At around 1:30 today, Fred went to shore to take some pictures. As he passed a houseboat near the shore, he noticed that one of the fishing rods on the boat had caught something. He mentioned this to the guy’s girlfriend, who said he (George) was eating lunch. Isn’t that what always happens? On Fred’s way back to the boat he saw the girlfriend, who said she had told her boyfriend, George, that he had caught something.
As Fred was walking down the dock, George came out with the rod and determined that the fish had taken the bait underneath the dock to the other side. Fred and George laid down on the dock (seriously?! — what??!) and passed the rod underneath so he could retrieve the fish.
George thought it was a catfish. After watching him try to work the fish for ~ 10 minutes, George said that it was probably in a tire that was 20 feet off the dock (local knowledge). George spent a further 20 minutes trying to move the fish, after which there was no action.
At 4:00 pm a new boat came to our dock and Fred found out that when the new boat owner went to pay his bill he had to step under the fishing line that was between the boat and the fish. The line was crossing above the dock.
As of this writing at 5:40 we don’t know the disposition of the fish, but George promised to show it to Fred if it weighed over 10 lbs. Maybe we will see it in the morning.
Patience is very important at this marina.
