Columbus, Mississippi

We made it!  We are south of the 33rd parallel!  We’ve been waiting for November 16, so we can get this show on the road.

We left Smithville Marina this morning and went through 3 locks. Two other boats were in the locks with us. We are still on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. We have passed through the Divide Cut and the Canal sections and have made it into the River section.

This is the first time we could see the different height of the water in front of us.

Some sort of wood chip loading place

The dam next to the lock

It’s not always very clear where you should not go, although we didn't have any trouble figuring this one out. If you haven’t heard about the boat at Chain of Rocks (we went past there), check this out - What happens when you ignore signs on the river and marine charts

More debris in the water

Did I tell you the locks are operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers?

A tow taking equipment to work on one of the lock dams.

We took a quick car trip into town and I saw these pansies. It’s November 16!  Of course the temperature was 75 degrees today.

A really cool thing about Columbus, Mississippi:  it is the home of the Air Force pilot training facility for fighter jets. They use T-6A Texan aircraft. I was lucky enough to get some on video;
