Written Tuesday, November 9, but not published then due to no useable WiFi or cell service at the marina. However, I’m sitting by the closed pool the next day, it’s 72 degrees, and life is good.
Today we woke up in Tennessee, cruised the Tennessee River, passed by Alabama, and turned into Mississippi on the Yellow Creek. In a couple of days, we’ll take the Yellow Creek to the Divide Cut, the Canal that will take us to the Tombigbee River. That is where we will go through several more locks. The tallest lock (84 ft.) that we will go through is there. 😬

Tennessee really is beautiful in November, and check out these ledges of rocks amongst the fall foliage.

I know places next to water have the potential to flood, but look at the stilts on these houses by the Tennessee River! And locals have confirmed that the river rises that high.
We went through the Pickwick Lock and Dam in Tennessee today. It was a 34 ft. rise and we waited an hour. Then it took a half hour once we were permitted to go into the lock. It had the floating bollards, which are my favorite.

The Lock Master was kind enough to take pictures of the boats in the lock. Taurus is the second boat in the pictures.

On their Facebook page, the Pickwick Lock Master said that you never know what will come through the Pickwick Lock. And he’s right! Here is the reason we waited more than an hour to get into the lock.

A guy in a pedal kayak! By himself. In the lock.

There were two boats, including us, and a tow waiting to lock through. 🙄
