Mobile, Alabama - Downtown
As of the end of today’s cruise, we have traveled over 3,000 miles on the Great Loop! Wow, that’s amazing 🤩

Today we left Bobby’s Fish Camp at 5:30 am, which means we were up at 4:30 am again. We entered the lock with the three other boats in our 5:30 am flotilla. Then it was another day of freezing cold (34 degrees) in the morning, and the winding Black Warrior River.

I think someone is playing a joke on boaters with this river.
You know, we’ve been in the wilderness for several days. So it came as a nice surprise when we started seeing signs of civilization.
And the terrain changed as we came closer to the southern coast of Alabama.
We are docked on the river wall of the Mobile Convention Center. It’s not a marina, just a safe place to tie up. There are boats and trains constantly coming and going.
Here’s a video of the large freighter Jimmy T:
Here’s a video of the train that runs right by us in downtown Mobile. I don’t know why, but it kept pace with us for several miles. Whether we were on his pace, or he held to our pace, I don’t know.
Across the river from us at our dock wall at the Mobile (AL) Convention Center. Littoral Combat Ship built by US Navy - USS Santa Barbara For more information on this stealth ship: Littoral Combat Ship
Expeditionary Fast Transport - USNS Apalachicola. For more information on this stealth ship: Expeditionary Fast Transport. It’s my understanding that this second one is an autonomous ship. |
And the sunsets are still beautiful
Tomorrow we start the Gulf Intracoastal Waterways!
