Alligator in the Caloosahatchee Canal in Moore Haven, Florida
We said goodbye to Ft. Myers this morning and cruised east on the Caloosahatchee River. Apparently, most Loopers stay on the west coast of Florida for the winter, but we are spending the winter on the east coast of Florida; Melbourne, in fact, as that is where our son lives. We decided to annoy him for a couple of months and get away from winter in Connecticut at the same time.
It was a long day in 86 degrees heat with full sun.
| We saw this power plant. This is by far the largest power plant we have seen while on this journey. |

We had to have two bridges open for us due to the boat being higher than the bridge opening and we also went through two locks.
| We saw a shipwreck on our way to the next lock. |
| So sad … |
When we got to our last lock of the day, the lock master told us it would be a while before we could go through. While waiting, an alligator decided to take a swim just off our bow: Alligator swimming off our bow

After an hour of waiting, the lock master finally let us go through the lock. They are in total control and if they don’t like anything about you, or you did something they don’t like, they’ll make you wait.
We went to a marina that consisted of a wall with cleats on it. We thought you couldn’t make a reservation, but when we called to inform the owner we were there, he said we had to move our boat so a 51’ boat could dock where we were. No problem, Fred and I dragged our boat about 60 feet down the dock.
Finally, the 51’ boat came to dock and did a horrible job. It turns out that the owner had the boat for a week. No one knew how to throw lines, and the captain didn’t know how to drive it. And at 51’, it’s a big boat. He hit the boat that was in front of his space. We really don’t even know why he was up by the boat that he hit.
And our late sunset. You can see Venus in the upper right. |
Wow, I am glad he did not hit your boat! Happy that you are now in warmer weather, not the freezing temps, you had.
ReplyDeleteYes we are warm!! So much better.
DeleteAnd I’m glad that the alligator was just swimming. It was a little unnerving though.
Alligator - hmmmm. I think that’s the Florida state bird. Except they rarely fly.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I didn’t need that information. 🐊
