Chesapeake City, MD to Cape May, NJ where we found a Nuclear Power Plant!

For fans on Fred’s nuclear power plant tour, today we passed two of them, both working power plants! As we rounded the corner and turned out of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal into the Delaware River, there they were, in all their beauty.  One is the Hope Creek Power Station, and the other is the Salem Power Station, both in New Jersey.  The Hope Creek station is the one with the cooling tower and one reactor.  The two reactors together are the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, and it uses the Delaware Bay for cooling water.

Did you notice the reflection of the cooling tower in the water?  That’s how calm the Bay was today!

We passed under bridges

And saw some cargo ships

We had a fast current behind us in the Delaware River.
You know it’s fast when a stationary buoy has a wake.

Our best speed with no current is 13 knots.  But if you notice on the Nebo screen shot, we traveled at 16.5 knots. This is a record for Taurus!  Between the current and the calm water, Taurus “flew like the wind!” as the other Loopers say.  As a matter of fact, the yellow track on the Nebo screen shot is a color that we’ve never seen before.  Most Loopers travel at approximately 8 knots, so I guess our speed does fly like the wind (13 knots is about 16 mph).  😂

It was a busy Saturday for boating on May 21. We encountered the weekend boaters as we approached our marina for the night. We had to go through this narrow old railroad bridge below, and it was a free-for-all with all the small boats.

Small boats having a free-for-all

The types of houses on the waterfront are different here too

And Taurus tucked into the slip for a couple of days.
Note the fuel pump right behind us. We got to refuel in our slip. Nice!
